Is This Normal? Finder · Poop and pee

My puppy is scooting on the floor. Why?

By Dr. Steve Pelton, DVM

The short answer

Scooting, dragging his rear across the floor, is common but not normal. Worms, anal glands, irritated skin or soft poop are the usual reasons, so give your vet a call today. They'll want to know what his poop has looked like.

Why it happens

Scooting is a puppy scratching an itch he can't reach. The itch usually comes from worms, full or irritated anal glands, sore skin or soft poop.
